Kimgs Mountain- Betty Jean Grier Pressley Maw Maw was the Matriarch and Rock of the family. She was such a loving, caring and giving person. She valued loving on her children, being a caregiver, taking care of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and most of all she enjoyed spending time reminiscing, talking and laughing at family gatherings.
Betty was the oldest child of the late James Grier Sr. and Margaret Wilson. She was born on March 26, 1941 in Kings Mountain N.C. She received her wings on February 8, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center Gastonia, N.C.
She was employed by Burlington Industries for nearly 20 years. Upon its closing, she then became employed by Glenn Raven Mills until she retired to care for her mother. While caring for her mother, she became a certified CNA.
She touched the lives of many children as a loving foster care parent. Her door was always open to anyone in need. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. During that time, she served on the Usher Board, Women's Auxiliary, the Golden Hearts and a helper with the Shepherd's Table just to mention a few. In her past time, she attended healthy lifestyles class at The Patrick Center, enjoyed crafts such as making flower arrangements, baking cakes, designing ceramics and preparing her famous potato salad.
She was preceded in death by: her mother; Margaret L. Wilson, father; James T. Grier Sr., grandson; Brandon H. Pressley, brothers; Lathanel Grier, Henry L. Grier, sisters; Mable Lene Guyton, Jessie Grier, and Helen Grier.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: three daughters; Jacqueline L. McClain of the home, Sonya P. Roseboro (Vincent) of Kings Mountain, NC, Mary E. Pressley-Durham (Calvin) of Charlotte, NC, four sons: Norman H. Pressley Jr. (Charlene), Kings Mountain, NC, Keith D. Pressley (Joyce) Gastonia, NC, Curtis O. Pressley (Evelyn) Kings Mountain, NC and Shawn L. Pressley (Jameika) Gastonia, NC. She was affectionately known as Maw Maw-Betty to her grandchildren: Sergio, Sherrell, Nicolas, Collins, Chadrick (Altrinia), Cameron, Jacobi, Jocelyn, Jerdon, Devin, Belton, Kia, Lanayah, and Kelsey, seven great- grandchildren: Hydeia, Kyla, Zyon, Mya, Chance, Chadrick II, and Cailliat (due April 2021), one great-great grand: Kaydence, three sisters: Claudia (Moses) Nueman Kings Mountain, NC, Mary Grier, Gastonia, NC, Gladys Grier, Dallas, NC., five brothers: James Grier Jr. of Az, John Grier, George (Sue) Grier, Ed Grier of Kings Mountain, NC, and Everett Grier of Gastonia, NC. Fond memories cherished by a very special cousin; Margie Wilson, her special friend; Mrs. Flossie Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
